Depending on clinical findings, treatment may also include administration of psychotropic medication. Our consulting psychiatrist is also our medical director, and our clinical teams meet regularly to review each client’s progress. Clients are free to decline medication.
For 16 and 17 year-olds, permission is required from the parent or guardian before medication is given, and considerable efforts are made to include families in the therapeutic process.
At Mash-ka-wisen, we know how important family involvement is to recovery. Both programs provide family members the opportunity to participate in therapeutic family sessions. In these sessions, our goal is to promote healing. Of those who have participated in family sessions last year, 94% saw an improvement in family communication.
In our family sessions, we discuss
- Client progress
- Chemical dependency and its effects on the family
- Amends that may need to be made
- Aftercare recommendations
